Criminal Charges on Cyberbullying?
In the United States cyber bullying has been on the rise due to technological advances. People are starting to spend much more time on their computers and cell phones than ever before. In the past couple of years cell phones, computers, tablets, and social media have evolved to be routinely used in everyday life and are accustomed by everyone. This has drawbacks because it also increases cyber bullying. Cyber bullying takes place online over social media, or text, inflicting damage to the intended person by sending harmful texts, sharing unwanted photos or videos, and saying degrading things. Cyber bullying is harmful and should be considered a crime if the victim is having suicidal thoughts, being depressed, or avoiding school/work to avoid to bully.
Cyber bullying should be considered a crime in the case that the bully is constantly attacking the victim after being told to stop. Cyber bullying can cause the victim to feel physiological, emotional, and physical stress. Like all forms of bullying it could lead the victim to suicidal thoughts, or depression. The persecutor should be charged if they are told to stop by the victim, or any other person. If they do not stop its because they intend to harm the person they are bullying knowing the damage it could cause. Cyber bullying like all bullying could bring negative changes to the victims life, such as a shift in grades, loss of sleep, use of drugs or alcohol, change in attitude, and lower self esteem. If one person or a group of people are wanting to cause this type of stress on someone it should be considered a crime because of the outcome that it could lead to.
Cyber bullying has received national attention because of the effects that it could bring. The first lady, Melania Trump, has started a campaign where her goal is to bring an end to cyber bullying. She wants to focus on cyber safety for everyone. She has received letters from kids being cyber bullied, and visited schools to see how many students are affected by it. She has teamed up with many people in the social media word to try and bring an end to cyber bullying. Cyber bullying can bring negative consequences, if the persecutor causing the stress is told to stop and does not they are fully aware of what they are doing and should be charged.

Cyber bullying is a crime since it harass and intimidate others while just simply being on the web and finding that someone is hurting verbally and physically. It good that you discuss on what cyber bullying is, but can you elaborate more towards cyber bullying and show some cases of how cyber-bullying affects people? It's best to know more towards the topic and what can be the solution to fix the issue. Although, I like your link towards stating that Melania Trump is a campaign towards ending cyber bully and how she plans to solve it. Good with your sources keep the good work.
ReplyDeleteCyber-bullying should indeed be a crime. To provide an example, when it comes to abuse, it does not always have to be physical, but rather verbal. As you had mentioned the aspect of an emotional toll that it may take on a victim resulting in some form trauma, it needs to be acknowledged more within society's educational walls. I am curious as to the current statistics of cyber-bullying, as a rise or fall in the act will heighten a lot of individuals views. In regard to Melania Trump's campaign, good job in adding in an example to your justification.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that cyber-bullying is a growing issue because people are spending more time on electronic devices then ever. I like how you talk about how similar the effects on the victims are to those of regular bullying. They are pretty much the exact same. However, I think that the first and second paragraphs should be switched so that you are describing what cyber-bullying is and the effects it has on people and then about the causes of it. I also think there should be more data sources to elaborate on your points. It is good that you bring up the campaign that Melania Trump started to end cyber-bullying. I would also like to know what else she and the people at social media have done to directly help the victims of cyber-bullying. Overall, this post does a good job explaining the causes of cyber-bullying and what is being done to stop it.
