Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is using a device to send a threat or harass another person. With the world on a continuous growth towards technology, the
effect would be more and more humans learning and adapting to this changing
world. In this today’s world many individuals are faced with cyberbullying,
this is the act of harassing someone with the use of technology. Now bullying
has hit an all-time high because technology is readily available.
Many
teenagers are faced with this form of bullying in this generation. Many have
access to technology that allows them to connect with the world around them.
Social media is the number one source where cyberbullying can be found. Social
media allows people to connect not only with family and close friends but the
world as a whole. Many individuals can post to forum or post comments
underneath photos of another person and now the entire world can see what was
said unless deleted. There’s a downside to the internet though, one something
is posted it’s shared to the entire world almost. Cyberbullying has a larger
impact on society because there are so many loopholes with using technology
such as; making someone unidentifiable, allowing them to post things with
little regards, and etc.
Individuals
that are bullied can face many problems like depression, low self-esteem,anxiety, and etc. The biggest issue with cyberbullying is that it’s through
technology, the reason for this being an enormous impact is because this form
of bullying can happen all time not only just in school or in public. Another
reason for cyberbullying being so wrong and distasteful is because schools have
little regard of what going outside of school, so when administrators view
cases about cyberbullying its sort of “let the parents handle this” mentality.
Parents seem to never realize that cyberbullying is now starting to become the
number one form of bullying. With parents help and individuals across the
United States can bring awareness to this form of bullying.
I think I mentioned in another post (about immigration?) that the best way to make your discussion tangible is to layer in specifics from cyberbulling cases in the news, or even data from academic research. That way, you can really reinforce the main points here with examples. Are you sure that most parents don't realize the effects of cyberbullying? I think the bigger issue is time: parents are working; their kids have devices; and kids are cruel. It's a recipe for disaster, and a parent cannot always be in the same room monitoring social media.
ReplyDeleteSo what you’re saying is technology is the root of how cyberbullying starts? I agree it definitely is a start, especially since the word “cyber” basically means technology. These days, it is easy for anyone to log on to a social media site and harass someone and the victim will never be able to do anything about it. Of course they could simply just block the person that is bullying them or even log off the site, but that gives the bully the upper hand by letting them think they’re winning. Conditions like depression, low self-confidence, and anxiety are the reason people can fit into social norms or even consider suicide, but you’re right, making people aware can definitely help decrease all kinds of bullying across the U.S.
